Innovative Flood Barriers Protect Two Locations in the Czech Republic from Flooding
As climate change intensifies, the demand for effective flood barriers grows alongside the increasing frequency and severity of floods.
Many communities, especially those at high risk of flooding are seeking better flood control measures to protect their homes, businesses and critical infrastructure.
Recently, our NoFloods Barriers were deployed to safeguard two locations in the Czech Republic from flooding caused by heavy rains.
The region has been severely affected, with several towns and villages submerged and tens of thousands left without power.
Read on to find out how our flood defence system helped prevent flooding in Hlučín City and Ostrava-Svinov.
The Challenge
Both Hlučín City and Ostrava-Svinov faced imminent flooding due to rising water levels.
In Hlučín City, the Domova pod Vinnou Hora, a care home for the elderly was at risk and protecting its residents became an urgent priority.
The facility, located in a vulnerable area, needed fast and reliable flood protection.
Meanwhile, in Ostrava-Svinov, the Odra River threatened to flood the lowest-lying area of the city, Nová Ves.
The Solution: Our Effective Flood Barriers
Our NoFloods Barriers were swiftly deployed in both locations in response to the flood warning.
In Hlučín City, a 220-meter flood Barrier was set up around the Domova pod Vinnou Hora care home for the elderly.
The professional firefighters of the Moravian-Silesian Region (HZS) worked meticulously to deploy the barrier which they first filled with air.
Next, they filled the flood barrier with water in just a few minutes, creating a strong shield that provided crucial protection for the care home.
Here’s a video of the deployment of the barrier.

In Ostrava-Svinov, a 100-meter NoFloods mobile barrier was placed in the lowest-lying area along the Odra River.
The installation, led by local firefighters and volunteers, raised the flood protection level by an impressive 80 centimeters in just two hours.
This marked the first time this type of barrier had been used in the region and the speed of deployment was crucial in preventing floodwaters from spilling into vulnerable parts of the city.
Here are a couple of pictures of the NoFloods barrier in action.
