Flood Protection Barriers Demo Tour in Belgium (We Got Towed)

Last week’s tour ended on a high note with three successful demos of our flood protection barriers in Brasschaat, Aywaille and Dinant, Belgium.

But getting there wasn’t easy; we faced unexpected challenges that put our commitment to the test!

Against All Odds, We Showcased Our Flood Protection Barriers

While heading north into Belgium from Thourotte, France, our van’s water pump broke down, stranding us in the French countryside, far from any train station or airport.

To make matters worse, the nearest repair shop didn’t have a spare part and all attempts to rent a replacement van failed.

With no clear solution, we faced a tough decision – cancel one or all of the carefully planned demos to showcase our flood protection barriers, letting down our partners and attendees.

Just when it seemed inevitable, a stroke of luck came our way – our Dutch partner had a spare demo kit in their van.

One of our team members rushed to Holland, drove the van south into Belgium and arrived just in time to keep our promise.

We take ownership, show responsibility and keep our commitments. This experience proved once again that we don’t just talk about reliability, we live it!

Day 1 Of Our Belgium Tour: Brasschaat, Flanders, Belgium

On 13th June we held a demo in Brasschaat, a Belgian Municipality close to Antwerp.

The local Operational Unit of the Civil Protection had requested to see a live demo of our flood protection barriers as part of their conscious effort in considering new and innovative products to protect the local environment from flooding.

Representatives from the city of Antwerp were also present.

Although Brasschaat isn’t particularly affected by flooding, its Operational Unit often intervenes in the provinces of Antwerp and Limburg during such disasters.

Antwerp is located in a particularly vulnerable area along the Scheldt River that narrows up near the city- it has in the past suffered from pluvial flooding.

Limburg on the other hand is often hit by flooding caused by the river Meuse and persistent rainfall.

Sandbags are still used throughout the city but problems related to their use amplify the need for better flood protection solutions.

Day 2: Aywaille, Wallonia

On June 14th, we demonstrated our flood protection barriers at Caserne d’Aywaille in Wallonia.

The local fire brigade was eager to see how our solution could enhance their flood response efficiency.

The event featured a lively Q&A session, where attendees praised:
✔ The simplicity of handling the barrier’s components
✔ The speed and ease of deployment
✔ The versatility of our new Flex Wall, which drew significant interest for its adaptability in various flooding scenarios

The positive feedback paved the way for future discussions on how we can support local emergency teams.

Day 3: Dinant, Wallonia

On June 15th, we wrapped up our tour with a demo in Dinant, a scenic city along the Meuse River in the province of Namur.

Once again, local firefighters showed great enthusiasm for the NoFloods Barrier’s potential to improve their flood response efforts.

Looking Ahead

Flooding remains a major concern for many cities in Belgium.

We hope these demonstrations mark the start of strong collaborations with emergency response teams across the country.

Together, we can work toward faster, more efficient and cost-effective flood protection solutions.
